Review: Diptyque 34 Boulevard Saint Germain Fragrance

Wednesday, December 31, 2014

I'm going to start off by saying that I'm late to the Diptyque game. Being a fragrance enthusiast (read: addict), I'm surprised it's taken me so long to discover the world of Diptyque. While I've always heard a thing or two about their incredibly amazing candles and skincare products, I never quite ventured into the store.

So when a Diptyque fragrance arrived home, I thought of it as another Parisian fragrance but I stand corrected. It's quite a unique one and something that is a far cry from the ones I own.

The 2014 Holiday Gift Guide: Gap

Tuesday, December 23, 2014

I love Gap's 2014 Holiday collection- it is fun, versatile and a breathe of fresh air into the wardrobe. Featuring themes such as Crazy Stripes, Fair Isle Shine and Party, the collection is a palette of vibrant colors, airy fabrics, glamorous and sophisticated pieces for both men and women.

If you are looking to shake things up in your wardrobe (because the new year is approaching!) or simply want to gift your best friends or siblings with something different for a change, you might want to check this collection.

The Crazy Stripes theme exhibits just that- hip, colorful and fun stripes in knit top dresses, knit pants, puffer vests and cashmere crewneck jumpers. The Fair Isle Shine themed clothing offers a pop and sparkle in sweatshirts, pants and accessories. It seems to be the best choice for this holiday season.

I quite like the dark floral print dress (part of the Party theme collection) and the silver sweatshirt. They'll fit into the different seasons without any effort.

The 2014 Holiday Gift Guide: Caron La Selection Discovery Perfume Set

Those who know me are aware of my penchant for fragrances. I have a few all time favorites that I use on special occasions. I'm not a fan of overpowering floral fragrances, I like the subtle version and appreciate the woody and (to some extent) oriental kind.

My vast fragrance collection is due to the fact that I usually purchase them when launched rendering my friends attempts to gift them to me futile. Once a friend told me that he had planned to get me a fragrance for my birthday and discovered through another friend that he should look for something else.

Having said that, when I step into the likes of Galeries Lafayette, Paris Gallery or Areej, it can get a bit difficult to find a perfect fragrance for friends or family (cousin, I'm talking about you!). What if they don't quite like it? What if they changed their minds in terms of oriental vs. the fresh florals? To nip the problem at the bud, you need to gift wrap a perfume box that houses an assortment of mini fragrances of different kinds.

Caron's La Selection Discovery Set for women is perfect for the season and for the fragrance lover in your life. It literally helps you discover which Caron fragrance you will fall in love with and comes with an empty purse spray.

The 2014 Holiday Gift Guide: Crate & Barrel

Monday, December 22, 2014

Say hello to the third part of the holiday gift guide! At this time of the year, several people look to either revamp their homes (most of the stores have promotions in full swing) or are moving into a new home. And that means new furniture! I love furniture shopping but hate going from one store to another if I can't find my ideal/dream pieces.

Crate & Barrel in Dubai makes it so much easier- I've spotted a few coffee tables, mugs and accessories that became an instant favorite. And to make things even better, they are offering 25% off on select furniture.

If you are visiting a friend who just moved into their new apartment or are looking to breathe life into your home, here are a few ideas.

Do you see the trunk shaped tables in the picture on the top left? They are actual trunks of acacia trees polished and refined to perfection. It's quite unique and my favorite. Look how fab those cute festive cups are. And those glorious candle holders? It is things like these that make up a room.

The 2014 Holiday Gift Guide: Mamas & Papas

As part of the second holiday gift guide series, I bring you some festive goodies for your little one. While the holiday season means finding the perfect gift for friends and family, it also means gifting the kids something they will like or look good in.

Mamas & Papas is the new destination to shop for the mini-you. The Holiday Collection treats them to casual and formal wear that is inspired by the colors of the season and things festive. There are also mini tuxedos and party dresses for those who love to emulate their dad's or mom's style. Apart from that, there are a number of accessories that will fit snugly into their rooms, the Christmas tree and their hearts.

How awesome is that hanging silver star? It's a perfect customized gift. Also makes a brilliant desk accessory (for me). And the passport holders? I have a penchant for them, the fancier, the better! I might just go pick that one for myself.

The 2014 Holiday Gift Guide: C.Wonder, JBR Dubai

Sunday, December 21, 2014

It's a few days before the holidays and if you are still scurrying around trying to figure what to buy, here's the first bit from my quick gift guide series. First up is one of my favorite stores in Dubai- C.Wonder.

Mall of the Emirates houses their first store in the Middle East, followed by Bloomingdale's and now they've opened at The Beach, JBR, Dubai. The  store has a wonderful atmosphere and enough things to keep you busy. C. Wonder's Holiday 2014 Collection is perfect for the festive season- either for yourself or friends, families and the likes.

From clothing and jewelry inspired by the latest trends to footwear and homeware, the collection doesn't fail to impress. Here are your gifting options- there's something for everyone!

I for one, love the dainty jewelry- how gorgeous are these bracelet? I'd like one!

Fortnum & Mason's Savoury Afternoon Tea In Dubai

One of my favorite places in the city, Fortnum & Mason located in Downtown Dubai added a new item to their glorious menu- the Savoury Afternoon Tea. I prefer tea over coffee any day- I cannot recall the last time I've consumed coffee. And I take my tea seriously, just as you do your coffee. The idea of high tea has always captured my interest and when I was made aware of the new version at Fortnum's, I had to try it!

Fortnum's instantly takes me back to London and the Dubai branch has done an incredible job of capturing the essence of the British store (take a look at the Piccadilly store pictures and you'll know what I mean). As always, my experience at this little piece of London in Dubai was nothing short of praise.

Review: Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Advanced Serums

Monday, December 8, 2014

One of things that caused a long queue of women outside Boots Pharmacy in the UK in 2007 was an anti-ageing serum. The product sold out quickly and a waiting list was created for women who couldn't get their hands on the product. Eventually it made its way on eBay with a 288% markup which women purchased anyway. Such was the influence of the product.

Dubbed as the mircale anti-ageing serum, Boots Pharmacy has launched an improved version known as the No.7 Protect and Perfect Advanced serums and it come in 2 forms.

Illamasqua's Alex Box Launches Facets 2014 Holiday Collection

Sunday, November 30, 2014

Illamasqua is a brand that I have warmed up to. And when I was invited to the launch of the latest addition, the Facets 2014 Holiday Collection in the presence of co-founder and creative director, Alex Box, I found myself looking forward to D-day.

The Facets 2014 Holiday Collection is nod to the several 'sides' we exhibit i.e. we are not restricted by one look, one mood or behavior.

IGN Con 2014 And A Giveaway

Thursday, November 13, 2014

I love how the UAE hosts games and comic cons. It gives gamers like me an opportunity to explore everything I love about the gaming and comics sphere under one roof.

Apart from Halo, Tomb Raider, Need For Speed (and some old favorites Quake, Unreal Tournament, GTA etc), I'm obsessed love Warcraft. There used to be a time when I'd glue myself to the computer chair for 5 hours straight playing the game day after day, much to the frustration of my parents ("You haven't eaten anything!"). The other day I walked into Kinokuniya, Dubai Mall and purchased a World of Warcraft calendar because of the incredible artwork (I also happen to sketch). The year is approaching its end and I have yet to make use of the calendar. On that note, I'm on the lookout for a laptop, ideally one that hosts a separate memory and graphics card to be used for my everyday requirements and gaming. Let me know if you have any recommendations (open budget).

Having said that, here's something new- the IGN Convention taking place in Dubai, UAE. I associate IGN (and Gamespot) with the best info on games primarily because they were my destination for info and updates when I first forayed into gaming as a kid.

Review: Lolita Lempicka Elle L'Aime A La Folie Fragrance

Do you remember the gorgeous Lolita Lempicka's Elle L'Aime Mon Rogue gift set? From the same powerhouse of glorious looking and smelling fragrances comes yet another gem, the Elle L'Aime A La Folie fragrance.

Lush Christmas 2014 Collection Launches In Dubai

Wednesday, November 12, 2014

You have got to love Lush for their fun products and collections. I was invited to preview their Christmas 2014 Collection and felt the Christmas spirit, not only through the products on display but also through the drinks and bites they served.

Lush's 2014 Christmas Collection features small wonders for skin, hair and body. Some of the classics make their way into this collection.

The Food Byte: Fortnum & Mason, Dubai

Thursday, November 6, 2014

Fortnum & Mason is a desserts lover's heaven. There. I said it. One of the best places in Piccadilly, London has opened its doors in Dubai. For those of who aren't aware, Fortnum's is a British department store that excels in luxury food items among other things.

Here's a little bit of background and an interesting story: Fortnum & Mason started off as a candle store! During the reign of Queen Anne, William Fortnum served as her footman and noticed that the Queen did not like to re-use any of the candles previously lit in the royal household. As opposed to throwing stacks and stacks of left-over candles, Fortnum decided to sell them. Eventually, he influenced his landlord Hugh Mason to join him and expand his already existing grocery business. And from then on, there was no looking back.

The latest Banana Republic collection, or as it is known The New BR was launched in Dubai as part of the Holiday 2014 Collection and showcases a chic, modern yet fresh take on what the brand has up its sleeve.

A Day With Decathlon

I come from a family who has fitness ingrained in them. My dad has put in so much effort to create his own gym (at home) that it is quite good to work-out in peace.

I am a firm believer of eating what you like but in moderation. I know people eliminate certain food from their diet completely. While that may take place for health reasons, there are those who will starve to attain their fitness goals. I'm not going to go on about why you shouldn't do that, but remember this- eat in moderation, know what's right for you and exercise.

Work-outs are of utmost importance and something you shouldn't ignore. As we age, our bodies fail to respond to various things as effectively as they would have otherwise. One of them is exercise. I see several people over the age of 50 exercising for the first time. They ignored everything when they were younger (for whatever reasons) and they are pushing their bodies now to deliver or simply working out because the doctor has advised them to. While they may attain results, it may not be as effective in terms of expected timelines. And this brings me to my next point.

Decathlon, a sports retailer invited me to a fitness session which I happily obliged. Say fitness or work-out and I'm all ears. I would always walk past the Mirdif City Center store but this time around got the chance to see what's on the inside. And I was truly impressed.

Lipsy's Autumn/Winter '14 Collection Launch In Dubai

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

I love it when collaborations and the latest collections arrive in Dubai within a short span of time once they are launched abroad. Case in point: Lipsy's Autumn/Winter '14 collection. This collection not only features clothing that captures key trends right off the catwalk but also pieces designed in collaboration with actress, Michelle Keegan.

The Lipsy London love Michelle Keegan collection reflects a palette of burgundy, black, grey, teal, pink, and navy combined with satin, lace, faux leather (my favorite!) and faux fur. The collection boasts of dresses, jumpsuits, tops, skirts and gowns for every occassion- be it work or party.

Here are some of my favorites. Did I mention how much I love lace and faux leather?

Review: Bath & Body Works Dark Kiss Fragrance

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Every time I visit Bath and Body Works, I end up buying things I don't necessarily need. Don't get me wrong. Their products are great and I have no complains but there seems to be an invisible existential pull from the candles and shower gel sections. How else can you explain my purchases despite having the same thing at home?

The same phenomenon occurred when I was invited to preview Bath and Body Works' latest, Dark Kiss Eau De Parfum.

New Look's Autumn/Winter 2014 Collection In Dubai

Saturday, October 4, 2014

There's one word to describe New Look's latest collection and it's a-maaaazing! I was invited to preview the Autumn/Winter 2014 Collection by the ever so jolly Robyn (she eats happy beans for breakfast everyday). I loved almost every piece that was on display- sequins, lace, leather, leopard (there seems to be a trend in my wardrobe), pastels, knitwear and beautiful accessories.

New Look is a brand that excels in high street fashion and continues to delight shoppers like me. The A/W'14 collection features prints, bold colors, pastels, metallics and more. Faux fur on scarves and stoles along with fur hooded jackets welcome the winter season.

In addition to this, accessories from statement necklaces to arm candy and handbags checked all the boxes when it came to completing an outfit.

This collection might be their best to date!

Review: The Body Shop's Wild Argan Oil Collection

Thursday, October 2, 2014

The first thing that comes to my mind when I read or hear about argan oil is the superior moisturizing properties. Argan oil was used as a key ingredient in hair products and now it has become an integral part of several skin and body care products.

The latest example being The Body Shop's Wild Argan Oil collection.

Marks & Spencer Launches Their Autumn/Winter 2014 Collection in Dubai

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

If you know me well, you'll know how much I love London (second home!). And it is brilliant to see several brands in Dubai embracing British themed collections, such as Marks & Spencer.

The 2014 Autumn/Winter Collection for men and women featured an array of chic designs and highlighted key trends. Think powder pastels, prints, metallics and more in the form of pretty skirts, tops, jackets and accessories. If you ever wanted to revamp your wardrobe, now's the time as Marks & Spencer has you covered for this season.

I particularly love the striking reds and the cobalt blues against a subtle palette of neutrals. And let's not forget, my favorites- lace, leather and sequins. Several pieces have landed on my wishlist already!

Banana Republic x Roland Mouret Limited Edition Collection In Dubai

Sunday, August 24, 2014

Banana Republic teams up with some of the best designers. Their previous collaborations with Issa, Michelle Smith/Milly, L'ren Scott, and others have proved to be a success, at least for me. The recent collaboration with designer Roland Mouret had me clearing out my wardrobe to welcome the new purchases.

The Banana Republic x Roland Mouret Collection boasts of 25 beautiful pieces featuring leopard prints, lace (my fav!), graphic details and more on blazers, tops, skirts and dresses. The dresses in particular, are absolutely gorgeous- incredible fit, length, cut and fall.

The best part? The collection is limited edition, which means 2 things: You must hurry and get the pieces you like lest they be sold out and, you won't catch half of Dubai (Zara fans, you know who I am referring to) wearing the same outfit as you.

Here are my favorite picks:

Revlon Launches ColorBurst Crayon Collection

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

The jumbo crayon lipstick craze is still alive, everyone! Revlon launched the ColorBurst Crayon Collection in the UAE a few weeks ago and the venue had all the gorgeous Revlon makeup lined up- from pretty blushes to shimmery eye-shadows.

The makeup brand collaborated with local designer Aiisha Ramadan (I love her work). A couple of Aiisha's designs were reproduced by artist, Hatty Pedder.

It was interesting to see an artist's vision come alive through Revlon's color palette. How gorgeous does the placement of colors and overall design look?

The ColorBurst Crayon Collection features the jumbo crayon lipsticks in 10 shades, all boosted with moisturizing ingredients such as Shea, Mango and Coconut Butter.

The best part of the collection? 5 of the shades are available in high shine format i.e. ColorBurst Lacquer Balm and the remainder 5 are matte.

If you are a new reader to the blog, let me tell you that I absolutely LOVE matte finishes. Majority of my lipsticks are matte.

The ones that are glossy are, at times converted into matte using lose powder. That's how much I love matte finishes. So it's no secret that from both, the Lacquer Balm and Matte Balm, the latter is my favorite.

The ColorBurst Crayons is a fusion between a lip balm and gloss. It moisturizes and keeps lips locked in with color.

Let's start with the ColorBurst Lacquer Balm in Couquette. This shade is a pretty pink- almost like cotton candy. A handful of shimmer can be witnessed upon application. The product glides on smoothly on the lips and leaves you with a shiny pout. You will need to reapply after a meal.

The swatch below features the Lacquer Balm on the top and Matte Balm on the bottom.

On to my favorite, the ColorBurst Matte Balm. I already got my hands on one of the matte lip colors prior to the official launch. That's what happens when you wander around in the mall and tell yourself that you are just window shopping. I bought 225 Sultry, which is a dusty rose-brown. I totally LOVE that color and now, I may just have another favorite in the form of 250 Standout.

This particular shade is a deep red and I believe it will suit almost all complexions. The Matte Balms do not have a 100% matte finish, they leave a slight sheen which is alright in my opinion. If you want a complete matte finish, you'll have to blot the lips after the first application and then apply a second layer. Unlike other matte lipsticks, this one doesn't tug the lips during application and neither does it dry them out (bonus and bonus!).

Both lipsticks have a peppermint fragrance to it and contrary to what you are (probably) thinking, these balms do not plump up the lips. Nonetheless, I love them.

I'll be reviewing the other products that you see in the images soon- keep an eye out for the Highlighting Palette in Bronze Glow and the scented nail polish. I tried the latter yesterday- gorgeous color and yes, the nails have a pleasant fragrance.

Have you tried the ColorBurst Balms? Which one is your favorite?

The Revlon ColorBurst Balms are available at select stockists across the UAE.

Review: Une Polishes & Eye Shadows

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

How gorgeous are these Une nail polishes? When they landed on my desk, I immediately fell in love with the nude pink polish . It looked so pretty in the bottle and the same was reflected on my nails. I'm quite happy that my Une collection is growing (remember this lipstick? My favorite is their golden BB cream that doubles as a beautiful highlighter). The fact that this brand is all about organic makeup is a bonus.

The Une C03 polish is probably a favorite among so many girls. It looks gorgeous on the nails and is certainly one of those work-appropriate shades. The color goes on slightly sheer with the first coat and the second seals the deal.

I didn't apply a top coat as the polish is quite glossy on it's own (I think the picture speaks for itself).

Next up is a beautiful chocolate brown shade, C16. When I first saw this color, I ignored it. Don't get me wrong- I'm a huge fan of dark colored polishes. In fact, my polish shelf has about 90% dark colors however, looking at C16 made me not want to try it on. It didn't look appealing. I changed my mind when I applied it.

The color is beautiful! It's such a rich chocolate brown shade and glossy as well. No top coat here either. I now appreciate browns more!

Both polishes are long lasting- they barely chip. And none of them (especially C16) stained my nails. Hurray!

And now I present to you another work-appropriate makeup product: The Une Top 3 Eye Palette.

I had a similar perspective of this eye shadow palette when I saw the packaging. I noticed the colors on the label and ignored it. Never judge a book by its cover. The colors are truly pretty; I wore the S03 one fine day, loved it and repeated the look the next day.

The palette has 3 gorgeous colors. S03- a soft pink (that pretty much matches nail polish C03), S06- a slightly deeper pink (although it looks more like a light aubergine in the picture) and S08- a brown for the crease.

What I noticed is, if you blend S03 and S06, it turns out to be a totally gorgeous dusty/medium rose. Love this palette! Unfortunately, the colors are on the lighter end to appear as swatches in pictures (I took at least 5 shots with different angles and lighting, yet couldn't capture it right).

And the final product is the Une Ultra Black Eye Liner Kohl pencil. It is creamy and glides effortlessly on the eyelids (people with oily lids, I suggest you either use a primer first or avoid this all together) and doubles up as a smokey eye shadow if you smudge and blend it.

Absolutely loving these goodies from Une. If you are impressed and looking for more Une products, read my review on their foundation and mascara

Have you tried Une before? What's your favorite/ which one would you like me to review next?

Une is available at select retailers across the UAE.

*The product(s) was sent by the brand/ its reps for a review. All reviews are based on my personal experience & outcome thereby presenting an honest opinion to the readers.

Get Floral This Summer With Fa

Friday, July 18, 2014

Summer isn't complete without pretty flowers and fresh fragrances, right? Fa, the deodorant brand recently launched its line of Floral Protect deos with 'scent-release' technology.

Let me start off by saying, the interior decoration at the venue was beautifully floral and well organized (big up to the TishTash team!). Secondly, the fragrances that the deos have are incredible. You might roll your eyes and say, "Girl, get a grip. It's just a deo". I kid you not, this line of deos were specifically enriched with special fragrances.

The two types i.e. Poppy & Bluebell and Orchid & Viola are alcohol free deos and do not stain the clothes once sprayed on (huge bonus). The deos come in a spray and roll-on format.

Both fragrances are quite refreshing and perfect for the summer. As for my favorite, I am inclined towards Poppy & Bluebell. I love this fragrance, so much that I also used it once as a room spray (don't judge me). The Orchid & Viola is a bit too much on the powdery side of things, at least for me.

The only thing missing from this line? Fa should launch a body lotion that has the same Poppy & Bluebell fragrance! I'd definitely get my mitts on it.

Have you tried this range yet? Fa Floral Protect is now available across retail outlets in the UAE.

Swarovski Launches Fall/Winter 2014-2015 Collection In Dubai

Thursday, July 17, 2014

Swarovski's Fall/Winter 2014-2015 Collection is so pretty, I had my mental wishlist filling up as I browsed through the collection at Zero Gravity, Skydive Dubai.

The collection entitled Facets of Light was inspired by holograms, LED lights and kaleidoscopic motifs. Absolutely gorgeous accessories including necklaces and bracelets were on display. I feel this is one of Swarovski's best collections to date.

I also have a few select pieces that landed on my wishlist!

Jewel tones were in full swing and so were statement necklaces. I absolutely love how Swarovski does cuffs and necklaces.

I love how there are so many things happening with this necklace but it all comes together and looks quite unique. This is easily a stand-out-from-the-crowd piece.

A closer look reveals the gorgeous pearls, crystals and beads...beautiful!

Take it from Swarovski how to make black accessories look stunning. While the necklace may seem way too chunky, you can take off the bottom pendant and wear it as a brooch!

Did I tell you how much I love Swarovski's bracelets?

More of the gorgeous bracelets. I LOVE these. I love the narrow silver bracelets so much, I plan to score them for Eid!

Swarovski, you did a good job with these.

Anyone up for this gorgeous Swarovski crystals embedded iPhone case? I want!

Swarovski makes the most delicate looking watches. If you haven't tried this on, I suggest you do. You won't leave the store without it.

This necklace is a stark contrast from what you've seen so far but looks absolutely beautiful when worn. It's one of my favorites!

I am in awe of this collection. Do you have a favorite?
