July Beauty Bliss

Sunday, July 21, 2013

A new month, a new bunch of beauty goodies to tell you all about. Some of these have become a must have and you'll know why once you read on.

I love cinnamon. Take one whiff of it and it uplifts your senses (it does mine!). It's a spice that does wonders for the face and body and it reminds me of my new discovery: Davines Hammam Ritual Massage Cream.

It's a ridiculously amazing body moisturizer that has a lingering fragrance of Ylang-ylang and chili pepper. The consistency of the cream is just about right- you don't end up with a greasy finish.

Keeps my skin hydrated for hours; I use this immediately after a shower/bath. The skin absorbs the cream in an instant. Did you know that the essential oil from the Ylang-ylang flowers are used in aromatherapy products?

Since we are talking about showers, I wanted to reiterate how much I love Davines Replenishing Hair and Body Wash.

I use this mainly as a shampoo and it truly pampers my hair leaving it soft and frizz-free. I keep getting the "You've done something different to your hair" comment when I really haven't. Read more about why I love it so much.

My other discovery is Dermalogica's Special Cleansing Gel. This is a spa-material cleanser. It is a soap-free cleansing gel that contains mint and lavender.

I wished this cleanser had a mint fragrance but it is fragrance-free. A clear gel that foams to clean away impurities, it left my skin clean and soft to touch.

Lavender has all the calming properties in the world, so the inclusion of this ingredient in the cleanser is a bonus! You need just a small amount of the gel to cleanse the face; this bottle will last you for well over a month.

A moisturizer is a must and if it is light-weight, even better. Dr. Dennis Gross Hydra-Pure Oil Free Moisturizer is great to use in the morning and night.

The consistency is that of a serum & cream and is absorbed quickly by the skin. Packed with anti-aging ingredients, vitamins and anti-oxidants, this moisturizer not only keeps the skin supple, but also acts as an anti-acne cream preventing future breakouts and treating current ones.

The moisturizer claims that it gets rid of all the 'plugs' created on our skin i.e blocked pores through the use of tap water. The 'plugs' is what gives rise to skin problems such as acne, blackheads etc. Sounds revolutionary to me. So many benefits in one cream!

What's summer without a pop of color? I love Bourjois' Color Boost Lipsticks. It's the latest in the lip crayon craze and it keeps lips protected from the harsh rays of the sun. Vibrant color and well hydrated lips? Read all about it.

And hey, let's not forget the pop of color on the cheeks. Benefit Cosmetics is one of my favorite make-up brands and when they launched their multi-tasking product called Fine One One, I made a bee-line for it. Gorgeous colors that work on the cheeks and lips- read why this is a must have.

Are you using a product that has become your favorite? Something you can't do without? Tell me all about it!

Review: Bourjois Color Boost Lipstick

Saturday, July 20, 2013

With summer in full swing, several people reach out for lip balms or chapsticks that give a hint of color to the lips. The Bourjois Color Boost Lipstick, available in four shades is your perfect alternative. This is my first lip crayon and I really love it. I was under the assumption that it would turn out to be like any other lipstick but I stand corrected.

I found the Color Boost Lipstick to be long-lasting, smooth and a non-sticky lip color. It glides on the lips effortlessly whilst creating an incredible glaze. It has moisturizing properties and keeps lips protected with SPF 15 (hurray!).

The 02 Fuschia Libre is a vibrant pink with blue undertones. The lipstick is pigmented and you don't have to re-apply every now and then. A slight tissue wipe leaves the lips with a translucent stain.

The first swipe creates a sheer/natural looking pink color on the lips. I love this look. A second layer boosts the pink to deliver a vivid coat of color.

I'm not a huge fan of lip glosses but I really like the Color Boost Lipstick for its finish (it's so lightweight it feels like the gloss is made out of water vs. the standard glosses) and the fact that it leaves a natural looking lip stain.

I compared this to Bourjois' Shine Edition Lipstick in terms of the finish. The top swatch is the Shine Edition color and bottom is Color Boost.

As you would expect, the Shine Edition delivers a creamy finish whereas the Color Boost creates a softer finish.

Which one do you like?

Bourjois Color Boost Lipsticks are available  across stores in the UAE.

Review: Mikyajy Celestial Metallic Collection

Friday, July 19, 2013

Every time I see Mikyajy products, I remember the fun event they hosted to launch Myriam Fares as their brand ambassador. Their new collection entitled Celestial Metallic is sure to make you go back in time (at least for a few hours).

The Celestial Metallic Collection is part of the 22K range of make-up products and comes in the same gold packaging.

I tried two of the twelve Celestial Metallic Finish lipsticks: 07 Popstar Brown and 05 Red Starlet.

The 07 Popstar Brown is a combination of sheer brown mixed with pink. It's slightly translucent and creates a flawless foil like aka metallic effect on the lips.

When I tried this on, the first think that came to my mind was, "Beyonce would wear something like this".

The 05 Red Starlet is a pigmented cherry red folded with a pop of pink. The end result very much highlights the pink rather than the red. Unlike the Popstar Brown, this lipstick is opaque in nature.

Both lipsticks are slightly creamy and lasts for a few hours before you eat or drink. Post that, they leave a slight stain on your lips along with a little shimmer here and there.

Here's a comparison swatch of both colors. Popstar Brown on top and Red Starlet on the bottom.

In my opinion, these metallic lipsticks suit certain occasions i.e. they are those special lipsticks that you can't use every day unless you are bold enough to rock it at the mall.

Also part of the new collection is the Exquisite Gel Finish Nail Polish. I'm a polish geek, I buy polishes like they are going extinct. Must stop this insta...oooh look, a pretty blue and purple! As the name states, both polishes create a gel like finish and you can achieve this in the luxury of your home as opposed to heading to the salon.

Although I love all shades of purple when it comes to nail polishes, the 06 True Blue is a favorite.

I had to apply two coats of this pristine blue color that is free of shimmer or a pearlescent finish.

The 06 Purple Plush is the color of an aubergine. A solid deep purple that would make Tyra Banks proud. The only thing that I didn't like about this is the fact that one coat of this polish creates the illusion of a black color unless light hits the surface of the nail. See the difference in the pictures?

Both polishes lasted for a week without chipping. And because it creates a gel finish, the consistency is slightly thicker than the standard polishes.

The Celestial Metallic Collection is available in all Mikyajy stores across the UAE.

Have you tried anything from this range? Do you have a favorite?

Review: Bourjois Shine Edition Lipstick

Sunday, July 14, 2013

Remember Bourjois's Rouge Edition lipstick I talked about sometime back? The brand decided to give that range a spin and launch the Rogue Shine Edition lipsticks just in time for summer season.

The Shine Edition lipstick in 22 Famous Fuchsia is a pink that packs a punch. The lipstick collection mimics a lightweight balm infused with color pigments and shine. The application is a breeze- it glides on the lips depositing a beautiful bold color.

Although it has a subtle fruity fragrance, when you apply it you can't get a whiff of anything (which is a good thing if you are sensitive to fragrances in cosmetics). The color stays put without smudging and keeps lips moisturized for hours due to the mango seed butter extracts.

In terms of texture, it is waxy and you can apply multiple layers for an intense color.

The Shine Edition collection, available in 8 shades features summer perfect colors- from a luminous red to a cotton candy pink.

The collection is available across stores in the UAE.

Be Part Of A World Record with Lush

Tuesday, July 2, 2013

I love Lush for a number of reasons- natural ingredients, preservative free products, amazing results on the skin (you must try their face masks; my favorite is the Catastrophe Cosmetic) and they don't test products on animals. They have so many fun products especially for occasions.

In a bid to raise more awareness about their fight against animal testing in the cosmetics universe, Lush is hosting an event at their Dubai Mall branch on July 6th, from 2pm-10pm. It's to set a world record for the most lip prints collected and you can be a part of it!

But before that, you will be given a chance to prep your lips in-store with their famous lip scrubs made of castor sugar and jojoba oil, followed by moisturizing lip balms (choose from 4 different flavors- my favorite is Whipstick, a combination of chocolate and orange). You can then apply cruelty-free color on the lips from the Emotional Brilliance Range and then leave your lip print. You will soon be part of a world record!

I've tried the Mint Julips lip scrub. It has a mint chocolate fragrance so I make excuses to use it every now and then.

The lip scrub contains peppermint oil, castor sugar and jojoba oil and scrubs away dead cells to reveal smoother and softer lips ready for lipstick/gloss.

And if a few bits of the scrub get into your mouth, don't worry- it is edible. I love this scrub! I've been using it everyday.

The Emotional Brilliance liquid lipstick in Passionate is one great way to seal the exfoliated lips with color. Passionate is a two toned pink-purple lip color containing moisturizing agents such as jojoba oil (this ingredient seems like a Lush favorite).

This color is for those who can pull off a vibrant/bright pout. It is quite pigmented so you won't need to re-apply much throughout the day. There are more colors to choose from so head down to Lush at Dubai Mall and make a difference!

While you are there, check out some of my favorites: Willow Pattern Soap, Catastophe Cosmetic, Ro's Argan Body Conditioner and Oatfix. Have fun!

Elie Saab: Resort 2014 Collection

Monday, July 1, 2013

He's done it again! I've said this before and I'll say it again, one of my favorite designers Elie Saab has delivered yet another incredible collection. I was beyond impressed with last year's Spring Couture and Resort & Spring/Summer collections and the Resort 2014 hasn't failed Elie Saab fans.

The latest collection features his signature style of design, cut, fabric and texture. Monochrome, stripes, solid colors, peplums, a punch of deep coral, lace and beads are all part of the chic and sharp collection.

My favorite? A combination of a hint of coral complimenting the nude hue. So fab!

Isn't it amazing? I love the black lace dresses. And as usual, some of these pieces have landed on my wishlist.
