Calvin Klein: CK One Summer Fragrance

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

The CK One Summer is one of those fragrances that make you think of yachts and maxi dresses. This limited edition refreshing fragrance comes in an ocean blue colored bottle that has the droplets of water effect  on it.

Calvin Klein's CK One Summer boasts of zesty citrus and watermelon, followed by water lily, cucumber, watermint (sounds like a summer drink, right?). There's also a hint of musk and moss.

It's such an amazing fragrance that I use during the day (and sometimes in the evening). I love the droplets effect on the bottle, so summer. I prefer using this mostly during the day because it's not overwhelming and doesn't scream that you've got perfume on. Makes an ideal gift too.

Review: Davines Replenishing Hair & Body After Sun Wash

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Summer is the time when the sun decides to mess up hairstyles, no matter what. Brands left, right and center release their editions of sunscreens, anti-sun sprays, tanning lotions and similar. And we rush to the salons for that treatment which promises to soothe each hair strand so that we don't look like we have a bird's nest perched on our heads.

I don't have the luxury of time always and hence, I rely on the hair care products like hair serums or home-made hair masks like this and this to nourish and moisturize my hair.

I've heard quite a lot about Davines and this is the first time I try them. I got my hands on the Davines SU Replenishing Hair & Body After Sun Wash.

Considering I don't have glorious locks, something that states 'replenishing' or 'nourishing/conditioning' is a bonus but hey, almost every hair care product claims that. So, how do I know it is effective? When I see or feel the difference in the first try; I saw it with this particular Davines shampoo. You might think I have high expectations if I'm looking for a difference so quickly but I kid you not- there are products for both skin and hair I have that deliver what they claim in the first go.

The Davines Replenishing Hair & Body After Sun Wash is part of the Sun Care range. The Wash was designed to infuse life into hair after it has been exposed to the sun (the sun has similar damaging properties on the hair as it does on the skin). It has a pleasant fragrance and among other ingredients, is packed with apricot oil that has moisturizing properties. The consistency is that of shampoos.

I don't spend hours in the sun so I used this as I would a regular shampoo. I usually apply a leave-in-conditioner or hair oil like Kerastase' Elixir Ultime or Redken's All Soft Argan Oil after washing my hair but this time around I didn't because I made a beeline to my room to watch Bayern vs. Dortmund.

Post the game, I had a look at my hair and I noticed two things- it was soft to touch and I mean soft(!) and it had a little shine too! I was sooooo happy- in fact, at first I thought I ended up with a few white hair strands (I was ready to yank them) but realized it was the light bouncing off my hair hence the shine. I kept touching and looking at my hair because I was taken aback. I wasn't expecting results so quick and I certainly wasn't expecting that shine (not like the shine on models's hair in the ads but enough to make me happy).

I haven't used this as a body wash yet, I think I'll reserve it for the hair. Davines states that this product protects hair from dehydration and is suitable for all hair types that is exposed to sun, sea salt and chlorine.

If you plan to soak up the sun this summer or spend time swimming, you might want to try this.

Davines is available at selected salons across the UAE and other GCC countries.

Review: Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 30

Thursday, May 23, 2013

I'm not a fan of the sun. I don't prefer tanning either. My skin burns easily. If I spend time under the sun, my skin turns red in a few minutes and begins to ache. I learnt this the hard way when I was a kid...I was minding my own business playing on the beach. So, you won't be wrong when you say I have a few anti-sun products like sunscreens. While sunscreens don't provide you with 100% protection (be sensible, use a hat for example to protect your hair, neck and ears from being sunburnt), they do help in minimizing the damage caused by the sun's rays.

To help combat the horrid effects of the sun (premature wrinkling is one of them), your armor is Dermalogica's Dynamic Skin Recovery moisturizer.

I've grown to like Dermalogica products (Bedtime for Breakouts is THE best product ever to zap that pesky zit off your face) and this moisturizer has become a must have for a number of reasons.

It is packed with SPF 30- a must have in Dubai's scorching unforgiving heat. It also doubles up as an anti-aging moisturizer. If you spend time in the sun, you might as well use an anti-aging skincare product. Dynamic Skin Recovery helps fight free radicals, signs of aging and stimulates collagen synthesis. For those who are unaware, collagen is a protein found naturally in skin; with age, the production of collagen declines and hence leads to wrinkles and saggy skin.

The fragrance free moisturizer is light-weight and immediately absorbed by the skin. Don't make the mistake I did- I actually slathered quite a bit when I first tried it and my skin was a bit on the damp/sticky side.

The bottle pumps out enough for the entire face, you don't need three to four pumps of it. I apply it after cleansing in the morning. I have normal to dry skin so I don't have issues with a shiny T-zone.

If you are looking for an ideal moisturizer with added benefits for the summer season, try this out.

Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 30 is available at outlets selling Dermalogica.

Collaboration: Benefit Cosmetics x Matthew Williamson

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

One of my favorite make-up brands Benefit Cosmetics and British designer Matthew Williamson have teamed up to release a limited edition beauty kit entitled Rich Is Back.

Inspired by Williamson's Spring 2012 collection, the kit features Benefit's eye shadows, lip gloss, They're Real mascara and blush.

Apart from the kit, the collaboration also features Benefit's popular Benetint and High Beam. Looking at the picture, the only difference when it comes to the tints is the packaging- the product looks the same.

The limited edition kits will hit the UAE market around September 2013.

And here's the designer and Benefit's fab Maggie I met when she visited Dubai for the Fake Up launch.

Here's to more fun collaborations. Perhaps they should collaborate next with Elie Saab?
